Universal Genealogy has been performing genealogical research for over 30 years, and has the expertise to perform accurate searches in a timely and economical manner. Our research projects generally focus on one particular family or ancestral line, and seek to identify missing information or find new ancestors. A research project can be customized to meet your specific requests and needs, though they generally involve a three-step process.
1 - Review known information
The first step of any genealogical research project is to identify what information is known, and what is missing. This involves searching published genealogies and Internet sources for research previously performed by others. By searching these sources first, we make sure our researchers don’t spend valuable time duplicating work that’s already been done by others.
Once we know what information is missing, we can determine whether the records exist which can help us locate the missing information. The next step is to begin searching for the missing information in original records
2 - Search the Records
Our searches then turn to original records which may contain information about your ancestors. These may include land records, tax records, censuses, parish records or government records, or even family bibles and histories.
While many of these records are available at the Family History Library, we often have to contact research affiliates and repositories at the place of origin in order to search the records.
3 - Report on Results
Once our searches have been completed, our researchers make a detailed report which explains the results of the searches, what the records mean, and what new information has been gathered. A copy of this report, any pertinent documents found, and updated family group records and pedigrees are then brought to you by our consultants. They sit down with you and explain the research project and its results in plain English so you can understand what has been accomplished.
While there is no guarantee that your ancestors can be found in the records of their time period and location, our researchers are experts in the field and will perform the most accurate and professional research possible.
For our LDS clients, a research project is often the best way to identify new, previously unknown ancestors and gather Temple work. At the end of a research project we will search the LDS database to determine if the Temple work has been completed, and prepare any individuals for Temple work. We then provide you with a Family Ordinance Request that you can take to any Temple to have ordinance cards printed for you.

The amount of time necessary to complete your specific research project will be determined by how much information is known, the time period and location of the research, and other factors.
