Book of Remembrance

Our Book of Remembrance service is one of our most popular services, and is an easy and efficient way to organize all of your genealogical data. Clients and consultants will determine a number of generations to systematically check, usually between 8 and 15 generations of ancestors. The project is a three step process.

1 - Gather and Digitize

We take any information you have gathered in books, pedigrees, family group sheets, letters, genealogy software, or dusty old boxes and examine it all to build an electronic file which contains all of your family data. We then search published genealogies and the Internet for any additional information that may add to what you have already collected.

2 - Clean-up and Temple Work

We then review the data gathered for accuracy, and double-check the information across multiple databases. We also check our own database of several million names which have been researched in the past for other clients. Each family and each individual is checked for a specified number of generations, and sources for each family are listed on family group sheets.

For our LDS clients, we then begin the process of ensuring that all the temple work for your known ancestors has been completed within the designated generations. We often find that the work for some individuals has been overlooked or missed, and these names are then prepared for temple work. We provide you with a Family Ordinance Request that you can take to any temple to have ordinance cards printed for you.

3 - Identifying Research Areas

Once all of the known information for your ancestors is gathered and cleaned, we are able to identify ancestral lines that end in time periods and places where research can be done. Of course, some lines will end in places for which the records no longer exist, and our consultants will identify which ancestral lines may be fruitful, and which may be more difficult.

Many clients choose to continue beyond their Book of Remembrance project by searching for new ancestors. A focused research project performed by a professional genealogist who specializes in your specific area of research is often able to identify new ancestors and extend ancestral lines. These projects may identify one or two additional ancestors, or tie your line into nobility which extends back hundreds of years.

Presentation

Our consultants will bring you your new Book of Remembrance at the end of the project, in either a traditional long-sheet book, or a standard three-ring binder. This book includes an index of your ancestors, all pedigree charts, and family group sheets for the number of generations designated before the project began. This new family treasure is professionally assembled, and will become a centerpiece in your home.

In addition to the Book of Remembrance, we provide you with an electronic file on CD containing all of the information from your book, which may be distributed among your relatives. In this way, you have two copies of professionally prepared information, which will ensure that this data never becomes confusing again. Learn More about Research Projects   •   Get Started
