History

Universal Genealogy Center began over 30 years ago under the leadership of Mick Stanger, who continues to manage day-to-day operations of the company. While the number of researchers, staff, and clients have increased steadily, our commitment to quality products and personal service remain unchanged.

Universal Genealogy has seen many changes in the field of genealogy, from the very first computerized genealogy programs to the most recent New FamilySearch web application. Through it all we have realized that no matter what genealogical tools may be introduced, there is always a need for sound genealogical practices, high research standards, and knowledge that comes only from years of experience. In fact, while it may be easier than ever to access genealogical information online, we feel that the ability to determine correct information, accurate facts, and good data is more important than ever.

Resources

Our office is located on South Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah, near the Family History Library. The Library holds the largest collection of genealogical records in the world – including several million rolls of microfilm. Our researchers are fast and efficient, and know how to best utilize this resource for your benefit. In addition to the records at the Family History Library, our worldwide network of affiliates gives us access to records and researchers across the globe. While access to these repositories provides incredible amounts of data to examine, our researchers are on the cutting edge of technology, utilizing digitized records and on-line resources whenever the situation calls for it.

After being in business for over 30 years, we have compiled our own unique database containing millions of names of individuals who have been previously researched, including many prominent and extensive LDS lines. Our proprietary software allows us to quickly cross-reference your ancestry with the ancestry of thousands of past clients. As a client, you receive the benefit of this research, and know that your efforts will not duplicate research that has already been done in years past for other clients.

LDS Clients

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will find that our research and methodology perfectly meet their needs for genealogy and temple work. Part of our research process includes locating the temple ordinance data for your ancestors and ensuring that all temple ordinances have been properly completed. Additionally, if we find that some names have slipped through the cracks, or we locate an ancestral line that has not previously been submitted, we prepare these names for you and provide you with the opportunity to complete these ordinances. Many of our clients come back year after year in order to have us locate new ancestral lines that are in need of temple work.

Our staff is also well aware of the recent and continual changes in LDS genealogy requirements. In fact, we are often involved in reviewing and testing new releases of the New FamilySearch web application. Our staff is trained on the use of the New FamilySearch web application in their genealogical searches, and utilizes this new resource daily.

Personalized Service

We pride ourselves on the quality of our services, and especially on the personalized attention given not only to the research, but to the client as well. Our consultants are constantly traveling the Western United States to meet with clients in their homes – at no additional charge. We feel that it’s only proper to be able to introduce ourselves in person, and explain our processes and research results with you. This gives you an opportunity to ask any questions, or discuss research goals with a trained specialist in the convenience of your own home. Even more, our consultants and office staff are always just a phone call away if a question arises between visits, and we’re always happy to help.

Flexible Solutions

In addition to our Book of Remembrance projects, and research projects, our company is able to help you with a wide variety of family history needs beyond genealogical research. In the past we have attended family reunions and explained our research results to the entire family, compiled and published memoirs and biographies, printed oversized pedigree charts for display, digitized and restored family photographs, preserved and converted audio and video to modern media formats, and much more. Our ability to perform whatever family history needs you may have means that you’ll never have to worry about any aspect of your family history - we can solve nearly any problem.
